The World Space Forum of UNOOSA dedicated to ‘Sustainability in Space for sustainability on Earth’ was held between 13 and 15 of Decembeer 2022 online. It was organized by UNOOSA, The Federal Ministry of Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology and the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of Austria.
Among the objectives of the World Space Forum 2022 were the putting “Space2030” agenda in the centre as a guiding document to enhance space-derived economic benefits and strengthening the role of the space sector as a major driver for sustainable development; connecting “Space2030” Agenda and its implementation plan with the results, recommendations and discussions of the World Space Fora 2019, 2020 and 2021; raising awareness on the “Space2030” Agenda in conjunction with the planned Sustainable Development Goals Summit in 2023; highlighting how Space technology can facilitate the implementation of the SDGs; presenting new space technologies that enable progress and drive cooperation and partnership in space; bringing space actors together to exchange best practices and explore ways to jointly address challenges to humanity and sustainable development issues.
The three days were full of vivid exchange and valuable insight touching upon all targeted topics and drawing perspectives for the future of space for the benefit of earth development and sustainability.
